Franklin Templeton has filed for two new Bitcoin ETFs (FBEQ, FIBT) with the SEC.

ETFs are expected to take effect on October 27, 2026, holding 95% equities and 5% Bitcoin exposure.

A "Bitcoin DRIP" mechanism reinvests equity dividends into Bitcoin-related products.

Bitcoin exposure is achieved via ETPs, futures, or options, not direct on-chain holdings.

Story

Asset management firm Franklin Templeton has filed a Form 8-A with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for two new exchange-traded funds (ETFs): the Franklin US Equity Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF (FBEQ) and the Franklin US Innovation Bitcoin DRIP Index ETF (FIBT). These funds are expected to take effect on October 27, 2026, and are anticipated to begin trading soon. Both ETFs will adopt a passive index strategy, initially allocating approximately 95% to U.S. equities and 5% to Bitcoin exposure. A key feature is the "Bitcoin Dividend Reinvestment Plan (Bitcoin DRIP)," where cash dividends from the equity portion will be automatically used to increase Bitcoin-related exposure, rather than reinvesting into equities. The Bitcoin exposure will be achieved through Bitcoin exchange-traded products, futures, options, or other related instruments, not direct on-chain Bitcoin holdings. Rebalancing rules are in place to manage Bitcoin weight, reducing it to 4.5% if it exceeds 5% quarterly, or cutting it back to 4.5% within two trading days if it surpasses 20% during the interval. FBEQ has a management fee of 0.09%, and FIBT's is 0.19%. This development introduces a novel way for traditional investors to gain indirect Bitcoin exposure within a diversified equity portfolio, potentially attracting new institutional capital into the crypto ecosystem. The dividend reinvestment mechanism could create a consistent, albeit small, buying pressure for Bitcoin-related products.

Issue context

The cryptocurrency market is experiencing a period of correction, with Bitcoin falling below the psychologically significant $80,000 mark. This movement is accompanied by substantial outflows from US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs, indicating a general risk-off sentiment among investors. Despite these short-term declines, institutional developments continue to highlight the market's long-term potential. Franklin Templeton plans to launch two innovative Bitcoin ETFs with a dividend reinvestment feature, which could offer traditional investors a novel way to gain Bitcoin exposure.

Current market movements indicate increased volatility and uncertainty. Pay attention to the development of key support and resistance levels for Bitcoin and altcoins. ETF outflows and technical indicators suggest short-term selling pressure, while positive funding rates in the derivatives market might indicate an underlying long bias.
